Ben M. (Mike) Adams, 70 of Elm Creek passed away Friday, March 11, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family.  Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 17, 2022 at Countryside Christian Church with Pastor Jeff Nielsen officiating. Those attending are requested to wear casual attire.  Interment will be held at a later date. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. Memorials are suggested to the Elm Creek Fire and Rescue Department.  Condolences may be shared online at  Services are entrusted to O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral and Cremation Services. Mike was born August 30, 1951 in Lexington, Nebraska to Ben and Mary Jane (Davis) Adams. He grew up in Elm Creek and received his education from Elm Creek High School, graduating with the class of 1970 After graduation, he attended University of Nebraska School of Technical Agriculture in Curtis, NE.Mike was united in marriage to Susan Garrelts on July 2, 1971 at the Christian Church in Elm Creek.  Mike worked as a farmer and rancher for most of his life. He also worked at Hastings Grain as a grain sampler for 30 years until his retirement. Mike loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids (who called him G-pa.)  He enjoyed raising cattle, registered quarter horses, deer hunting, Western movies, his coffee group and giving a hard time to all the employees at the area elevators. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Susan Adams of Elm Creek; son, Brad Adams of Kearney; daughter,  Becky (Dean) Vagts of Anna, TX; grandchildren, Ashley and Creighton Vagts of Anna, TX; sisters, Cathy (Danny) Hill-Klein of Genoa, NE and Linda Adams of Kearney;  brothers-in-law, Lyle (Deborah) Garrelts of Bennington, Wayne (Barbara) Garrelts of Kearney; sisters-in-law, Mary “Mimi” Garrelts of Kearney, Janet (Dave) Barnum of Stapleton; uncles, Homer Davis of Elm Creek, Howard (Erlene) Davis of Arapahoe; aunt, Georgia Ashmore of Lexington; 9 nieces and nephews; and numerous great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Robert and Esme Adams, and Homer and Faye Davis; brothers-in-law, Don Hill and Richard Garrelts.
