Edward Alvin McMullen, 81, of Burwell, Nebraska, passed away on September 14, 2020, at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.
Graveside services were held Monday, September 21, at the Cottonwood Cemetery near Burwell. Pastor Alan Petersen officiated.
Ed was born December 3, 1938, in Ogallala, Nebraska, to Donald and Beulah (Fulcher) McMullen. He was baptized as a young child. Ed graduated from Burwell High School in 1956. On October 13, 1957, Ed married Enola Miller in Burwell at the Methodist church, and on October 13, 2020, they would have been married 63 years. Ed and Enola were blessed with two children.
They have always lived in Garfield county, where Ed and Enola farmed, ranched, and had a dairy. Ed was also a carpenter and worked construction to help build Highway 91 east of Burwell. He was the Garfield County Weed Superintendent for a few years, and for 68 years, he was Santa’s helper. Ed also enjoyed playing cards and traveling with his wife Enola. They had visited 45 states. Every deer season, Ed looked forward to having family and friends come do a little hunting, card playing, and a lot of storytelling, including a few tall tales.
Ed is survived by his wife Enola McMullen of Burwell, and his children, Terry his wife Rene McMullen of Burwell, and Wanda and her husband Derrick Ganjehsani of Gilbert, Arizona; four grandchildren, Derrick McMullen of Boulder, Colorado; Ashley (Kyle) Nighswonger of Torrington, Wyoming; Brett (Katie) Newman of Marion, Ohio and Jeremy Newman of Gilbert, Arizona; four great-grandchildren, Maggie and Austin Nighswonger of Torrington, Wyoming, and Gwen and Anica Newman of Marion, Ohio.
Ed is also survived by his sister, Frances, and husband Larry Simpson of Burwell. Ed has one nephew, Wayne (Marcia) Hora of Stapleton and two nieces, Donna (Bob) Cook of Ord, and Donita (Dan) Stewart of Lexington. Ed is also survived by several great and great-great-nieces and neph-ews.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents and a great-grandchild.
Memorials are suggested to the Burwell Fire Department.
