She was born May 24, 1962 in Mullen, Nebraska to James Lewis and Mary Ann (Florea) Mintle. Mary moved with her parents to Tallin Table Nebraska and started school there. When she was 7 years old, she moved with her family to a ranch west of Thedford, Nebraska, where she lived until she graduated from Thedford High School in May of 1980. After graduation she attended John Brown University and graduated Suma Cum Laude in May of 1984. Mary taught school in several country schools in the Sandhills area after college.

In May of 1989, her only son, Cody Allen Hackney, was born. He was the joy of her life. She loved taking him to visit her family, and they enjoyed many wonderful times together during his formative years. Mary held several different jobs in the mid-Nebraska area. She taught school near Whitman, Nebraska, Goose Creek Country school near Brownlee, Nebraska, and a Christian School near Grant, Nebraska. She worked for the Custer County Chief for several years, then with Schwan’s Food Service, and finally Primerica Insurance and Securities Agency, which brought her to Kearney, Nebraska.

Mary loved people and never met a stranger. She enjoyed her church family in Kearney, and deeply loved the Lord. Some of the highlights of her life included singing as a family with her Dad, Mom and six sisters and brothers. She loved children, and loved watching them learn. She was a great enthusiast of stories and instilled in her students a love for reading and wanted to help them learn all that they could.

Mary was very artistic and imaginative. She always had wonderful stories to tell. She painted, took photographs, and loved crafts. She had a heart for giving, and wanted to help people so much. She was a kindhearted soul, she never swore, or put on airs. She always put others ahead of herself, and she was always genuine.

Mary’s greatest desire for her friends and family on earth was to come to a knowledge of the power and glory that fills your life with joy when you claim Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. Although she suffered in this life with pain that many cannot, and should not, ever have to endure, she was always upbeat, and glorified God in what He had given her. Her love for her son, Cody, was unmatched, and she will be missed so much by all who knew her, especially her dear son, brothers and sisters, and her extended family. Her family was of utmost importance to her, and she enjoyed spending time with them, and seeing them grow and succeed.

We are so sad that her life was cut so short, but we glory with her that she is at the feet of the Father, and can now walk with Jesus Christ, whom she lived her life for. She loved God, she loved the Bible, and she loved the Lord Jesus with everything she had. She was a light that will certainly be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her son, Cody Allen Hackney; sister, Rose(Jerry) Mull of Brady, Nebraska; Joanna(Matt) Montgomery of Clarkston, Michigan; James (Shari) Mintle of North Platte, Nebraska; Sylvia Mintle of Thedford, Nebraska; Velma (Allen) Ewoldt of Thedford, Nebraska; and George (Trina) Mintle of Thedford, Nebraska, seventeen nieces and nephews, aunts, uncle, and numerous family and friends.

Mary is preceded in death by her father, James Lewis Mintle and her mother, Mary Ann Mintle.
