Mary Ruth (Cotton) Weems, age 97 passed away January 9, 2023 in Callaway.Mary was born August 17, 1925 in a hospital in St. Louis, MO to John Franklin and Bonnie Bess (Lair) Cotton. She lived up to the age of ten in Garden County where she attended a country school. At the age of ten, her parents moved to McPherson County where she attended 6th grade through high school, graduating in 1943. She returned to Garden County to teach three years in another country school. Returning to Tryon, she taught one more year there. Her next employment was in Portland, OR at the Federal Reserve Bank. But the Nebraska Sandhills called and she returned to teach one more year in a country school in Thomas County.On April 30, 1949 she married Cecil C. Weems of Stapleton and continued living there until her death.Mary was a member of the Cornerstone Church in Stapleton and VFW Auxiliary #8258 in Stapleton.Survivors include daughter, Susan Moxley of Columbus, OH; sons, Dean (Carol) of Arthur, NE, and Kent (Vickie) of Stapleton, NE; eight grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and many other family members.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cecil; son, David Weems; grandson, Obie Weems; great-granddaughter, Miyah Moxley-Purdie; and brothers, Robert and Dale Cotton.
