Stanley Rex Pettit 74, of North Platte formally of Ringgold Ne. passed away June 26, 2019 at Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Ne. He was born July 22, 1944 to Donald and Helen (VanMeter) Pettit. He graduated from McPherson Co. High School in 1962. He attended Kearney State College for 2 years. Stanley married Julie Rodewald June 6, 1965 in Tryon. The couple made their home in Sutherland where Stanley was a meat cutter for Kealey’s Jack and Jill. Stanley cut meat for several years before returning to ranching in 1978. They moved south of Seneca in 1982, then later returned back to the Rodewald ranch.
Stanley served on the Thomas County school board and ASCS board at various times. He also served as Co. Commissioner in Thomas Co. for 24 years. He announced football games in Thedford for 10 years. Stanley belonged to the Mullen golf course where he exercised his golfing passion. Stanley was a past member of the Hershey lions club. Stanley was a prior member of the First United Methodist Church in Seneca, as well as a member of the First United Methodist church in North Platte.
Survivors include wife, Julie of North Platte; three children, Staci Maliske of Roberts, Montana, Scott (Joy) Pettit of Riverton, WY, and Shane (Angie) Pettit of Stapleton, Ne; six grandchildren, Michael Maliske, Michaela Maliske both of Roberts, MT, Jensyn Pettit, Jaitlyn Pettit both of Riverton WY, Chandler and Emerson Pettit both of Stapleton, Ne; special niece, Terri Kesslar of Stapleton; siblings, Phyllis Taylor of North Platte, Roberta Pettit of Newbrighton, MN, Dale (Colleen) Pettit of Cheyenne, WY, and Terry (Evelyn) Pettit of Culbertson; sister- in- law, Vera Pettit, of Lincoln, Ne; and numerous other family member and friends.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Merlin Pettit; and a son- in- law, Zarrin Maliske.
Memorials can be sent to First United Methodist Church in North Platte or to the Thomas Co., McPherson, Logan, and Hooker Co Fire Departments.
Service will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday July 2, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church in North Platte with the Rev. Dr. Douglas Delp officiating. Burial will be in Miller Cemetery near Tryon. The casket will be closed. Visitation will be Monday from 12 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
