Terry Burton Huddle passed away July 31, 2025, at Brookstone View in Broken Bow, NE just 2 weeks shy of his 87th birthday.
He was born August 14, 1938, at Mrs. Kemp’s house in Mullen, NE to Howard (Dump) and Leta Virginia (Isom) Huddle. Terry grew up on the family homestead south of Seneca with his three brothers: Clyde, Floyd and Joe and little sister Bonnie. He attended country school until 8th grade then went to Mullen Schools, “boarding” with the Johnny Isom and Clarence Sweet families as his parents moved to a ranch south of Woodlake. Terry, nicknamed “Doc” or “Hudd”, qualified for state track and was voted Most Valuable Football player by his teammates. He graduated from Mullen High School in 1956.
February 22, 1958, Terry married Dorsa Mardell Marsh at the Methodist Church in Mullen, NE. While working for Jim and Kate Drinkwalter south of Woodlake, they had three children: Terry Joe, Billy James and Pamela Mae. In 1964, the family moved to Seneca, NE and Terry began work for Franke Construction. In the winter months, Terry worked for Vern and Helen Dent, calving out cows and heifers. He thought highly of Vern and said he always treated him well. Vern helped him start his own herd of black white faced cows. In 1973 Terry and Mardell began working for Harry and Doris Coble, moving north of Mullen to the Coble Camp. Terry continued to increase his herd and eventually leased the ranch. In 2001 Terry and Mardell sold their cattle and moved to town. They managed Mullen Heights Apartments for several years and Terry also worked in maintenance at Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home
Terry was a skilled handyman and kept his shop organized and spotless. He and Mardell made a great pair on many renovation projects. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, taking many trips with his kids and grandkids. Merle, Hank and Waylon often filled his speakers while “slowly” cruising the town. He was also quite witty, loved pulling a prank or two and remained a faithful consumer of Ford vehicles and Budweiser beer. Most importantly he was a kind, thoughtful man who deeply loved his family.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents Dump and Virginia Huddle and brother, Ivan Joe Huddle.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Mardell Huddle of Mullen; sons Terry Joe (Pam) Huddle of rural Alliance and Bill (Diane) Huddle of Neola, IA; daughter Pam (Dale) Ginkens of Mullen; grandchildren Randy Huddle of Blair; Tyler (Paige) Huddle of Amarillo, TX; Austin Huddle of Mullen; Brandi (Chuck) Gubbels of Panama, IA; Sheyna (Keanan) Fischer of Fort Pierre, SD; Kaitlyn Vorthmann of Des Moines, IA; Pearl Huddle of Salt Lake City, UT; Jake Ginkens of Mullen; Logan Ginkens of Valentine and Ally Ginkens of Lawrence, KS; great-grandsons Charles and Chase; brothers Clyde Huddle of Humansville, MO and Floyd Huddle of Thedford; sister Bonnie Dale of Callaway plus nieces, nephews, many relatives and friends.
