William Thomas Sierks 1934 – 2017

William Thomas Sierks, 82, of Dunning, NE, passed away at his home on June 2, 2017. Tom was born to Charley and Ivy (Shannon) Sierks on August 15, 1934 as the youngest child of five. His siblings were Charles, L. Eugene, Frederick, and Eileen.

Tom lived his entire life in the Sandhills of Nebraska. He graduated from Dunning High School in 1952 as the Salutatorian of his class. On July 18th 1954, he was united in marriage to Doris Aline Saner. To their union, they raised four children; Timothy, Monte, LaTonne, and Kent as well as Doug Rideout and Scott Backlund.

Tom loved ranching and raising cattle his entire life. He loved his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He loved building and refinishing wood work for friends and family. In his younger years, he loved traveling throughout the United States and abroad. One of his most memorable trips was visiting his brother Frederick’s grave in Holland.

Tom volunteered his labor to whomever asked. He was a school board member and also a volunteer fireman. While ranching, Tom was an excellent record keeper. He was at war with the cedar trees and spent every winter cutting and counting how many he cut. He also kept track of the 100+ raccoons his dog treed within the last few years. He always had a dog as a companion at his side.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charley and Ivy; brothers Charles, L. Eugene, and Frederick and sister Eileen (Wescott).
